Triumphal Procession
By Bishop Keith A. Butler
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 2:15
When the enemy had been defeated, the returning emperor would lead an entire procession of celebration and victory called a triumphal parade. As he rode down the main avenue of the city with head held high, the people would begin rejoicing. In order to flaunt his victory, the returning victor would either parade behind the foreign king or have the foreign king, bound in heavy chains, paraded behind him, followed by defeated rulers and men. Further back in the procession were oxcarts loaded to overflow with booty taken by force from the king's homeland.
After riding down the main avenue revealing his booty and singing his song of victory, the victor would stop in front of a large set of stairs that led to an ornate throne. His military conquest had proven that he was still the holder of authority; therefore he proudly walked up these steps, taking his rightful place at the throne.
When Jesus was delivered out of the very throne of hell and energized by the Father, He walked up to satan and took away the keys of death, hell, and the grave. Then He said, "All power has been given unto me in heaven and earth. I'm taking that power and that authority, and I'm putting it in the hands of anybody who would receive me.
Thus, if you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you have become a conqueror, a prevailing force, an overcomer. You have been given the spoils of victory over sickness and disease, poverty and fear. You have the spoils of victory over anything that will come against you.
Prayer for Today
Father,
I praise you for always leading me in triumphal procession through setback, defeat, sickness, and poverty. You have prevailed over death and hell; surely you will prevail over any situation in my life. I claim the victory in Jesus' name, Amen.
